At Cross the Divide, we believe that true change happens when communities come together with a shared purpose. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our brand-new partnership with Bubele Africa, an inspiring non-profit organization dedicated to cleaning up and restoring our rivers and neighbourhoods while providing meaningful employment to those who need it most.
Founded by Wendy Malpage, Bubele Africa was born out of the COVID-19 crisis, when so many people in our community lost their livelihoods. Since then, they’ve been hard at work, removing an astonishing 150 to 200 bags of litter from our rivers every single day.
Their efforts don’t stop at the water’s edge—they also clear stormwater drains, remove rubble, and tackle overgrown weeds and invasive species to restore the natural beauty of our environment.
Now, thanks to this partnership, four formerly displaced and homeless men from the Cross the Divide Food Drive have joined the Bubele Africa team to help clean our local area once a week.
This initiative is also made possible through our collaboration with the active and supportive Craigpark Residents’ Association (CRA). These men, who have been seeking stable employment, are now part of a movement that not only restores our environment but also rebuilds hope and dignity through meaningful work.
This is just the beginning. We want to do more.
It costs R300 per day per worker to keep this initiative going. With your help, we can employ more people, clean more areas, and create a lasting impact. Your donation, no matter how big or small, directly contributes to providing work opportunities and keeping our neighbourhoods and rivers clean.
