For four years, William would visit Cross the Divide for a weekly meal. At first, he was quiet and easy to overlook. But one day, he summoned the courage to ask for help paying his R300 rent. Rather than simply give him money, a member of our team decided to provide William with an opportunity—an exchange that would spark his entrepreneurial journey.
With no formal job prospects in sight, William was tasked with creating a mosaic at the entrance of a property. Without any prior experience, William learned the basics and rose to the challenge. The result? A stunning mosaic that now welcomes everyone at the gate, and a renewed sense of purpose for William.
William didn’t stop there. He displayed initiative by watering newly planted vegetation along Jan Smuts Avenue and even cleared invasive water hyacinths from Delta Park’s dams. These acts of service showcased not only his work ethic but also his ability to take initiative and give back to the community.
